Kolkata, also known as the ‘city of joy’ represents a happy amalgamation of different cultures, thoughts and ideas. Having been the capital of India under British rule till 1912, and then the capital of West Bengal, it is a very important hub in terms of culture and industries.
I had been living in Kolkata for the past one year as I was preparing for my Fashion Entrance, and now that I am finally into NIFT Mumbai, I will be no longer staying in Kolkata and will be shifting to the city of Mumbai.
There are quite a few things that I am going to miss about this beautiful city, and hence I thought writing about the same would be a great thing to do. So, I hope you enjoy reading this post!
The Ambience
Kolkata has an amazing ambience. It is a city full of life and color. It beautifully depicts the contrast between old and new, and between history and modernisation, to be precise. On some days you may feel really irritated owing to the weather and the constant rush, but that is where the essence of the city lies. Kolkata has a beautiful aura and I am totally going to miss it.
Kolkata Chai
One of the major things that I am going to miss about this city is its chai (tea) that is served in small earthen tea cups, in every other tea stall by the roadside. There is something about the way it is served that makes it taste better than usual tea. Even if you aren’t a chai lover, you will definitely become one once you take a sip of it.
BRDS
This post would be incomplete without mentioning about the institute where I took my Fashion Coaching from, i.e., Bhanwar Rathore Design Studio (BRDS), Kolkata. I would have never done so well in my NIFT Entrance without the knowledge and experience that I received from here. It has an amazing ambience and a great faculty who taught me lessons worth a lifetime. I made the best of friends in here and learnt a lot from them as well. BRDS never felt like a coaching institute and rather felt like a creative space where I could be myself, learn and grow. I am definitely going to miss everything about BRDS.
Street Food
One of the best things about Kolkata is the street food that you get in here. There is variety, spice and taste in every nook and corner of the city, in terms of food. Added to this, it is extremely affordable and tastes really great too. From snacks and meals to beverags, Kolkata street food is a big thumbs up.
Art & Architecture
Kolkata is a picturesque location when it comes to art and architecture, and this is one of the things that I am going to miss about it. It has some beautiful buildings and monuments which depict flawless art and architecture, and a huge credit for this goes to the fact that it was a colonial city under the British empire. For a person who loves art, architecture, travelling or exploring, Kolkata is a great place to draw inspiration from. It is a place full of creativity.
That’s all about today’s post. I hope you liked it! As someone who has lived in this beautiful city for an year, I would like to suggest all of you to visit Kolkata atleast once in your life, and enjoy all the color and culture that it is known for.
I will definitely miss being in there but I am also very excited to explore a new city altogether, i.e., Mumbai! I am looking forward to it and I will definitely share my experiences with all of you!
Thankyou so much for reading! See you all soon!

Beautiful description of the city! I am obsessed with chai tea, but I am sure the kind I get in the US does not compare to the Kolkata version. xx
